AWO ABDI is an emerging Somali artist based in Manchester, UK. A multifaceted and experimental artist, Awo incorporates various techniques to translate the rich vastness of Somali culture and heritage, untethered from fixity, materiality or singular forms. As a graduate from the Manchester School of Architecture (2021) and a product designer, her art often explores space and positionality in relation to her heritage. Her work is both personal and universal, bridging generations and inviting viewers to consider what it means to be connected to a place, a people, and a history, even from afar. With a fresh perspective and a daring approach to storytelling, Awo is quickly carving a unique space in the art world.
